Working as an SEO content specialist, I come across hundreds of blog posts every day. And no matter how different they are, I can always put them into one of the three categories-
- Too creative
- Too technical
The ‘too creative’ ones show content with in-depth topic coverage and an exceptional use of vocabulary. They actually inspire readers. However, they lack the presentation quality in them. They don’t provide a convenient format for the audiences.
On the other hand, the ‘too technical’ ones provide a beautiful presentation with subheadings, bullets, images and everything. But they don’t have the capacity to generate a meaningful idea in the minds of the readers.
What makes a blog content perfect?
A perfect blog content is all about the QUALITY. But, I am talking about two types of qualities here. You need to achieve both technical and creative qualities while writing a blog post.
In an article on Search Engine Land, Dave Davies explains how content quality is about visitor’s satisfaction. However, he also explains the connection between content quality and rankings.
So, if you desire a successful blog in 2018, choose valuable and relevant concepts, and present them in the best possible format. This will impress your readers as well as the search engines.
It is important for you to understand these quality criteria. Only then, you can cultivate the skills and techniques that I have added below.
Now, that we are clear about what quality content is. I want to dig deeper on how to write a good article.
1. Bring a systematic process in your content writing
Every successful blogger knows the importance of systematic writing.
For enterprises, managing blog content strategy is easier with multiple teams working together. But when you are writing content for blog on your own, it doesn’t take much to lose the systematic process.
I am not trying to throw you in an office kind of life. You can sit and write according to your own time frame. That’s not the issue.
By systematic process, I mean that you clearly define the steps of writing a content piece.
Here is how successful blogger creates content:

- Draft creation
Following these steps, you can ensure the desired quality in your content piece. Then, move towards on-page optimization techniques, publishing and promoting your blog post.
2. Find out the demands of your audiences
This probably tops all other blog writing tips. Finding the demands of your audiences is the key to creating quality content for blog.
The ‘quality’ is majorly decided by how your content piece fulfills the expectations of the readers. So, you need to understand those expectations before you write. In technical words, we call it the ‘user intent’ or the ‘searcher intent’.
There are several ways to understand users’ intent.
You can definitely start by analyzing SERPs that you want to target. Google does an immense level of work to sort the search result pages. And that work can help you understand your target audiences too.

Along with the SERP analysis, you can also understand the content demand by evaluating social media. You can connect with your own community of readers and find out what issues they are facing. Then, you can solve those issues with your content piece.
Keyword research is another way of learning about the content demand. Smart bloggers don’t write for the keyword, they write for the intent behind that keyword. Keep that in mind when you conduct a keyword research to write your own blog in 2018.
3. Choose bigger topics that justify long-form content strategy
These days, it is clear to almost every blogger that long content is the best form of content for blog. But some bloggers miss the core idea behind the long form content strategy.

A title that works amazingly on Google pages, might not work on social media. Writing a title for Google requires more SEO traits. However, your content title for social media has to have some promotional traits too.
I suggest writing 3 titles for every content for blog.
Title 1 should be for Google. You need to focus on keeping it as crisp as possible and put your target keyword in it too.

Title 3 can help you with social media postings. This title should focus more on the promotional traits that will help you attract more audiences.
For social media, I have created this title, along with a brief- “Blogging guide to improve your content writing in 2018”
I suggest you focus on the 3 title idea and play with it. Hopefully, it will help you get more traffic to your blog in 2018.
6. Make your sub-topics engagement worthy
Modern readers look at the sub-topics before they decide to give their time to a blog post. So, your sub-topics should be engagement worthy.
Now, there are two aspects of sub-topic engagement.
Step 1- The selection of the sub-topics
The selection of the sub-topics is one little secret on how to blog well. You need topics and concepts that are clearly relevant to the overall idea of the blog post.
Use your post heading as a message you want to convey to the readers. Then, choose concepts that can help you lead the content towards that message. This will stop you from adding unnecessary concepts in the blog post.
Step 2- Writing appealing subheadings
The presentation of the selected sub-topics matters too. The major quality of your content for blog is judged by the subheadings you create. If you can’t hold the interest of readers with subheadings, the time duration will go down.
So, when you blog in 2018, make sure you give proper time to creating subheadings for your post. However, there is no set formula for this. Of course, you can find long tail keywords and use them in subheadings. But their appealing nature depends on the type of blog and audiences you have.

12. Save yourself from boredom
When you feel bored while writing content for blog, the post comes out to be boring too. So, stop trying to post every day. Give proper time to express your thoughts on your blog in 2018.
