How To Write Stronger Blog Content In 2018 –Become A Better Blogger

How To Write Stronger Blog Content In 2018 –Become A Better Blogger

You are writing quality blog content, but why it isn’t helping your blog?!

Or, maybe it’s working just fine, but you know you can do better.

Blog writing offers you the independence to create content, according to your own choice.  But if you want to become a better blogger in 2018, you need to rethink your rules of content for blog.

Working as an SEO content specialist, I come across hundreds of blog posts every day. And no matter how different they are, I can always put them into one of the three categories-

  • Too creative
  • Too technical
  • Perfect

The ‘too creative’ ones show content with in-depth topic coverage and an exceptional use of vocabulary. They actually inspire readers. However, they lack the presentation quality in them. They don’t provide a convenient format for the audiences.

On the other hand, the ‘too technical’ ones provide a beautiful presentation with subheadings, bullets, images and everything. But they don’t have the capacity to generate a meaningful idea in the minds of the readers.

So-

What makes a blog content perfect?

A perfect blog content is all about the QUALITY. But, I am talking about two types of qualities here. You need to achieve both technical and creative qualities while writing a blog post.

In an article on Search Engine Land, Dave Davies explains how content quality is about visitor’s satisfaction. However, he also explains the connection between content quality and rankings.

So, if you desire a successful blog in 2018, choose valuable and relevant concepts, and present them in the best possible format. This will impress your readers as well as the search engines.

It is important for you to understand these quality criteria. Only then, you can cultivate the skills and techniques that I have added below.

Now, that we are clear about what quality content is. I want to dig deeper on how to write a good article.

1. Bring a systematic process in your content writing

Every successful blogger knows the importance of systematic writing.

For enterprises, managing blog content strategy is easier with multiple teams working together. But when you are writing content for blog on your own, it doesn’t take much to lose the systematic process.

I am not trying to throw you in an office kind of life. You can sit and write according to your own time frame. That’s not the issue.

By systematic process, I mean that you clearly define the steps of writing a content piece.

Here is how successful blogger creates content:

  • Research
  • Headline creation
  • Content outline
  • Draft creation
  • Editing

Following these steps, you can ensure the desired quality in your content piece. Then, move towards on-page optimization techniquespublishing and promoting your blog post.

2. Find out the demands of your audiences

This probably tops all other blog writing tips. Finding the demands of your audiences is the key to creating quality content for blog.

The ‘quality’ is majorly decided by how your content piece fulfills the expectations of the readers. So, you need to understand those expectations before you write. In technical words, we call it the ‘user intent’ or the ‘searcher intent’.

There are several ways to understand users’ intent.

You can definitely start by analyzing SERPs that you want to target. Google does an immense level of work to sort the search result pages. And that work can help you understand your target audiences too.

As Rand Fishkin explains in this Whiteboard Friday video, you can find out the dominating user intent by looking at the results and related queries provided in the SERPs.

Along with the SERP analysis, you can also understand the content demand by evaluating social media. You can connect with your own community of readers and find out what issues they are facing. Then, you can solve those issues with your content piece.

Keyword research is another way of learning about the content demand. Smart bloggers don’t write for the keyword, they write for the intent behind that keyword. Keep that in mind when you conduct a keyword research to write your own blog in 2018.

3. Choose bigger topics that justify long-form content strategy

These days, it is clear to almost every blogger that long content is the best form of content for blog. But some bloggers miss the core idea behind the long form content strategy.

Long form content creation gives you the ability cover your topic with great depth. But the topic has to have scope to handle that depth. In the Backlinko analysis of Google search results, Brian Dean explains how long-form content pieces require in-depth nature in order to rank.

You want to know how to write an effective blog?! Don’t just write long content. Write on topics that deserve long-form content. Otherwise, you will end up giving thousands of fluff words to your readers.

4. Discuss your blog content ideas with other bloggers

Having a discussion about your ideas also helps in getting better content on blog. These discussions deliver much better results if you have blog experts to talk to.

You can collaborate with the bloggers who are writing for similar audiences. You can find their take on your topic idea and include their point of views in your content too.

This collaboration brings a depth in the content, which helps audiences of all the bloggers working together.

So, start building your own social media community of bloggers and influencers this year. You will definitely observe some positive changes in the quality of your content.

5. Start writing 3 titles for every blog post

This blogging advice can help you in the projection of your content piece.

The title or the headline conveys the overall content idea and attracts the readers too. But this presentation depends on the platforms you are targeting.

A title that works amazingly on Google pages, might not work on social media. Writing a title for Google requires more SEO traits. However, your content title for social media has to have some promotional traits too.

I suggest writing 3 titles for every content for blog.

Title 1 should be for Google. You need to focus on keeping it as crisp as possible and put your target keyword in it too.

For example-

My Google title for this post is- “How to write stronger content for blog in 2018”

Title 2 should be the post heading on the blog. This title should convey the overall idea of the content and motivate the readers too.

My post heading for this post is- “How to write stronger content for blog in 2018 –become a better blogger”

Title 3 can help you with social media postings. This title should focus more on the promotional traits that will help you attract more audiences.

For social media, I have created this title, along with a brief- “Blogging guide to improve your content writing in 2018”

I suggest you focus on the 3 title idea and play with it. Hopefully, it will help you get more traffic to your blog in 2018.

6. Make your sub-topics engagement worthy

Modern readers look at the sub-topics before they decide to give their time to a blog post. So, your sub-topics should be engagement worthy.

Now, there are two aspects of sub-topic engagement.

Step 1- The selection of the sub-topics

The selection of the sub-topics is one little secret on how to blog well. You need topics and concepts that are clearly relevant to the overall idea of the blog post.

Use your post heading as a message you want to convey to the readers. Then, choose concepts that can help you lead the content towards that message. This will stop you from adding unnecessary concepts in the blog post.

Step 2- Writing appealing subheadings

The presentation of the selected sub-topics matters too. The major quality of your content for blog is judged by the subheadings you create. If you can’t hold the interest of readers with subheadings, the time duration will go down.

So, when you blog in 2018, make sure you give proper time to creating subheadings for your post. However, there is no set formula for this. Of course, you can find long tail keywords and use them in subheadings. But their appealing nature depends on the type of blog and audiences you have.

7. Carefully decide the order of concepts

When you have your subheadings ready, rearrange them. Think of the concepts as different steps of a ladder.

To climb that ladder, it is important that you present the easiest step in the beginning. Then, you can gradually increase the complexity with other steps.

So, what does it tell us about the blog writing format?

It clearly suggests that you need to explain simpler topics in the beginning and help the readers towards more complex concepts. This is how you can present your quality content in the best possible manner.

8. Dedicate one paragraph to one idea only

In an article on Search Engine JournalBrent Csutoras explains the importance of one paragraph, one thought. He explains how modern-day readers desire simplicity and comfort while reading a content piece.

This habit is the key to writing content that doesn’t seem intimidating to read. Shorter paragraphs keep the human mind interested and help in absorbing the information. So, you should definitely include this idea in your own blog writing guidelines.

9. Write 2500 words to get quality 2000

The need for long content can cost you the crispness of your writing style. And that generates the issue of low quality in your content for blog. The posts look huge, but deliver very low engagement chance for the readers.

So, editing is a part which you can’t skip, ever.

Whenever you ask yourself- how long can a blog post be?

Add 500 words extra to that. Usually, a 2000-word content piece is considered effective in terms of latest SEO guidelines. So, you can write about 2500 words, and then, edit it down to 2000. This way, you can obtain the required content length without compromising the quality.

10. Use meaningful image content for blog

As a blogger, you already know the importance of images. Both search engines and audiences love the presence of images in a blog content.

But, don’t include images just because you are supposed to. I see many blogs with images that do nothing for the text content.

Images are a part of your blog content. Their relevance to the text content matters. Otherwise, the images help neither in the search engines nor in terms of reader engagement.

So, when you blog in 2018, add images that offer relevant meaning to your content.

11. Read your old blog content every day for 1 hour

With every blog post, you learn new things. The research work improves your knowledge in your own blogging area. That knowledge can also help in improving your previously written content pieces.

Creating blog content requires continuous hard work. But you need to keep on updating your old content pieces too. It doesn’t take much time if you manage well. Sometimes, you can just give 10 minutes to a blog, and it starts performing much better.

I suggest you start giving 1 hour to old content on your blog in 2018. Read and update latest information to keep the quality top-notch.

12. Save yourself from boredom

When you feel bored while writing content for blog, the post comes out to be boring too. So, stop trying to post every day. Give proper time to express your thoughts on your blog in 2018.

Creativity takes time, and proper time saves you from boredom.

These are the blog writing guidelines that will help you create better content this year. If you also have tips for writing a successful blog post, please share them in the comment section. I would love to read them.

Enjoy blogging!
